Draft, last updated October 15, 2026
This is a plain description of what we collect, written for a small product in early access. It is not final legal language, and we will update it as the product grows.
Your account
When you sign up, we store your email, name, and either a hashed password or your Google sign in details. We use this to let you into your account and to reach you about it.
Your bot
We store the settings and site text you give your assistant, such as pages, documents, and answers you write yourself, so it can answer visitor questions.
The chat widget
When a visitor uses a Chatbait assistant on a business's website, we store the messages they send and receive, and a random visitor id generated by the widget so a conversation can be continued across page loads. This id is not tied to a visitor's name or email unless they type one into the chat themselves. The business that owns the assistant can read these conversations in their dashboard.
Analytics
The marketing site uses Google Analytics and PostHog to see aggregate usage, such as which pages get visited. We don't run ads, and we never sell this data. It does not run inside the chat widget, our dashboard, or anywhere you're signed in. If you're in the EU, EEA, UK, or Switzerland, it only runs after you accept the cookie banner; everywhere else you can decline it there too.
Cookies
- cb_consent — remembers your cookie choice (accept or decline) for a year.
- cb_region — a rough region (not a precise location), used only to decide whether analytics ask for your choice first.
- cb_internal — marks a signed-in team member's browser so our own visits are never counted.
- Google Analytics and PostHog's cookies — set only once you've accepted (or, outside the EU/EEA, UK and Switzerland, until you decline), to tell visits apart and measure usage.
- The sign-in session cookie — keeps you signed in to your account.
To change your choice, use "Cookies" in the footer of any page.
We use your email to verify your account and to send password reset links when you ask for one.
Email list
If you sign up for the blog's template pack, we store your email, which page you signed up from, and the exact consent text you agreed to, so we can send the pack and new templates when we add them. Every email has an unsubscribe link; clicking it stops future emails right away.
